Q&A
Q: What vaccinations will I need?
A: Before travel, ensure that you are up to date on your routine vaccinations. Goa is not an at risk location for malaria. India requires you to have a yellow fever vaccine ONLY if you are arriving from an infected area (South America or Africa). More information from the CDC can be found here.
Q: Is India a safe place to travel?
A: Yes! The Indian government uses English as an official language and most people in tourist destinations are fluent. The U.S. Department of State travel advisory for India is a level 2: exercise increased caution. The U.S. Department of State recommends you do not travel within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border or to Kashmir. Learn more here.
Q: Can I stay at the hotel longer than the two nights planned for the wedding?
A: Yes! We understand that many people are traveling from the United States and will want to rest a night or two before the wedding. You’ll be able to book multiple nights at the special rate. We recommend extending your stay at the hotel before the wedding, rather than after as the hotel has an event booked for the weekend of October 20 and so there may not be a guarantee that your same room will be available.
Q: Will the food be super spicy?
A: Fear not owners of mid-western palates! All super spicy food at the wedding will be labeled. If you travel to other parts of India, the food will likely be spicier but they tend to serve milder versions to foreigners.
Q: Will I get stomach issues in India?
A: You will not get stomach issues at the Alila Diwa, as it is a 5 star Hyatt resort. If you travel to other parts of India, it is recommended you take a probiotic one week ahead of your travel and continue while you are in India. April’s doctor recommends Genestra HMF Travel.
